Parallels between the situation of Anne Frank & WWII

Anne Frank was born in Germany in 1929 In Francót de Meno. The economic crisis, the rise of Hitler and the growing anti-Semitic sentiment in society put an end to the quiet life of the family. Otto Frank and Edith, his wife, decided - like many other Jews - leave Germany.

Otto can set up a company in Amsterdam; the family finds a home in the Merwedeplein. When the threat of war in Europe increases, Otto tries to emigrate with his family to England or the United States, but such attempts fail. On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. This is the beginning of World War II.

On May 10, 1940, German troops invaded the country. Five days later, the Netherlands surrendered and the country is occupied by the Germans. Shortly thereafter, the occupants imposed anti-Jewish measures. Jews are prohibited presence in more and more sites, Anne and Margot have to attend an exclusive school for Jews and Otto loses his company.

Shortly before having to hide, Ana receives a diary as a birthday gift, which immediately begins to write. During the period in which it was hidden, Ana writes about what happens in the House and Back on itself. Journaling is a great support for Ana, who also writes short stories and it collects quotes from writers in his "Phrasebook Bonitas".

When the Dutch Minister of Education calls - through the English radio - to keep the diaries written during the war, Ana decides to draft the text of his diary to turn it into a novel to which called "The House Behind". Ana starts with rewriting, but before finishing is discovered along with other hidden, and arrested.

On August 4, 1944, the hidings are arrested, along with assistants Johannes Kleiman and Victor Kugler. Central office through German Security Service, the prison and the Westerbork transit camp, province of Drenthe, Netherlands.

War-blog: A Moving Testimony: History Through the Eyes of a Holocaust Survivor

Comment:
Rina Pearl Zakay was just a ten year-old girl when the Second World War started and the life as she knew it ended abruptly. After the war, she went to Israel and decided to fight for the independence of the State of Israel. After the Holocaust, she is a proud grandmother of three grandchildren who all served in the Israel Defense Forces. This is a very touching story of survival. I'm very proud of Rina and her incredible courage during the WWII. Also I'm very impressed at how she could survive always maintaining her integrity. In the testimony you can perceive many facts or events which undoubtedly involve the death of Jews. However Rina could find a way to perpetuate her parents legacy and become an extraordinary woman. Finally we can see that stories like this are still having relevance and continue touching the heart of many people. At least Rina survive the Holocaust, nevertheless her family and friends passed away.

Real testimony of colombian conflict

Transcript:
Juan (interviewer): Good night, this video it’s an academic activity of Rosario University English area. So, we are going to do an interview to David. Tell me David, in which circumstances the violence in Colombia affected your life or your family life.
David: well, good afternoon. Practically violence has affected all the Colombians one way or another. In my case, yes, the guerrilla movement affected my family, because they expropriated my grandfather’s farmlands. So, my grandfather ran away from his lands near to Barrancabermeja (Santander Department). Also they taked possession of the farm and even they took my uncle to fight in their lines. Since 35 years ago, we don’t know anything about him. Maybe he is alive or not. Yes, the violence affected horribly myself! Also in the town where I lived, Sabana de Torres in Santander Department, violence also appropriated this town. Many people were displaced, so they found new jobs and new forms of income because the guerrilla movement did not allowed that the cattle ranchers, workers and other people lived in that expropriate territories. My town became a ghost town. For example, in the afternoon, at six o clock you didn’t find anyone on the streets, they dominated all! All the stores, the commerce was dominated by them! If you wanted to go out after six o clock you must had a special permission. Also the majority of people paid someone who take care of the people properties and others families transfer money from other cities like Bucaramanga o Barrancabermeja in order to paid the taxes and services of their houses.
Juan (interviewer): Ok David, the next question is, do you think the peace is going to be signed? I mean, are you agree with the sign of a middle peace or something? What’s your opinion about the current process?
David: Practically the peace process is very negative to Colombia, I mean, maybe we signed the peace, but we won’t have the peace that we want, because the guerrilla movement is going to started to modify the Constitution, to take advantage and accommodate it in their own way.
The rate we are going, will not be peace, the opposite, will increase the war!
Juan (interviewer): Ok David, thank you so much. I hope this exercise serve as study to all and we keep learning much things about the conflict. Thanks.

Colombian’s peace, an uncertain reality

The twentieth century in Colombia it is characterized by the incessant ideological fight between the FARC and the Colombian Government. Many of the reasons by which the guerrilla arise, it’s because for years the government only focus his attention in the center of Colombia, I mean Bogotá. Also many regions and towns were forgotten and therefore several armed groups take advantage of this situation and ended up politically controlling these geographical areas.

Nowadays the conflict is not over, even right now when we are trying to negotiate in La Habana – Cuba. On the other hand, I think that the Peace Process will not end conflict in Colombia because the government has not discussed yet with the FARC many important points in the negotiation agenda. So, I want a complete peace where topics like transitional justice, illicit crops or post-conflict will totally clear. However If we accept that kind of peace we should prepare to a new era of violence because I’m not agree living with war criminals that must be paying years in jail. I don’t want to be pessimistic, but we deserve a complete peace and I’m not agree with the way how this process is taking.

Moreover I think that the guerrilla movement should not participate in politics because show us that his main ideological purpose wins. Thus I’m agree with the Colombian Senate to create a Constitutional Reform where the FARC will not have rights in this. Finally the government politics should orientate his vision in favor of all the victims in the large of our history.
